With the beginning of spring comes more local shows and incredible crowds, which Pinto Sunshine’s show at Smith’s Olde Bar absolutely captured. Performing with Pinto Sunshine came up-and-coming rock band UNIQO and theatrical punk band Kyle Lewis is a Boring Name. Pinto Sunshine’s October “Pinto-ween” show was the last time the bar had seen the band and with this show, the bar and its patrons were reminded of the intoxicating and contagious energy of the band and the openers they bring along with them.

UNIQO performed first, introducing us to a mix of indie rock and garage rock inspired music. The crowd was lively all night which UNIQO took advantage of starting with a cover of Radiohead’s “Just” which got the crowd excited for not just their set but the rest of the night. They then performed a list of original songs while encouraging people to listen to their new song “Polaris,” which was releasing that night. While the bassist took over the mic for a cover of Nirvana’s “Breed,” lead singer JJ joined in with the crowd which got people excited to see what other shenanigans the propeller-hat-wearing singer was bringing along with his band.

As UNIQO was done with their gear on stage, we were introduced to a man in a pink jumpsuit accompanied with his band and of course, it was none other than Kyle Lewis is a Boring Name. After they finished their line check, Kyle Lewis along with his band exploded with a captivating energy that drew you in closer as they performed songs off their cabaret punk 2025 Album, Big Dog’s Biggest Dog. As the crowd was moshing, Kyle Lewis instructed the crowd to get low as he sang to them while sitting right in front of everyone. He was able to have them low on the ground and immediately back into moshing as the band performed their song “Hey! I’m the Devil.”

Once Kyle Lewis is a Boring Name wrapped up, we heard the exciting cheers for none other than Pinto Sunshine. They were accompanied by bassist Chase Sammons from local grungecore band, GRUDGESTEP.

The crowd immediately started singing along as Pinto Sunshine began performing songs off their 2024 album Pinto Sunshine, Vol. 1. The longer they were on stage, the more the crowd danced and the louder the singing got.

Right before the band was about to start the end of their set, their original bassist, Jam, came from the greenroom and hopped on stage. The crowd erupted into cheering and hype as Chase and Jam switched off. The band welcomed Jam with excitement as they broke into their song “Two Roses.”

As the song neared its end, UNIQO’s lead singer, JJ, joined the band on stage and performed the harmony for Pinto’s singer, Santi, as he keeps the main line going with the energy of the crowd radiating towards them. Not only was JJ singing part of the song, but he was also joined by the crowd who was uplifting both singers and cheering on the band.

Once Pinto Sunshine finished their set, there was no hesitation from the crowd to chant “ENCORE” and of course, the band immediately hit the crowd with throwback song "Siggy" which gave the crowd a final hurrah of a mosh pit.

It wouldn’t be an overexaggeration to say everyone in the crowd was sweaty after these three amazing sets. Each band helped build hype for the next act and built off each other while getting the crowd excited, even in between acts. Each band brought unique quirks to the stage, and their crowd presence makes seeing UNIQO, Kyle Lewis is a Boring Name, and Pinto Sunshine a treat each time. Having those three acts together made for truly an amazing and captivating show.
