If you’re a fan of Waterparks, you’ve got to check out their opener, Jhariah! Their music is known for being genre-defying, often blending elements of dance, punk, emo, hardcore, hip-hop and more! The artist often describes themselves as “No Genre, All Drama.”

Jhariah began exploring music young. Their first track “Electrolyte” was a 20-second electronic piece released under the name “ShinySwordStorm.” Their visual aesthetic is gained from Jhariah studying 2D-animation at the Pratt Institute. Their first widely recognized single, “Catch Me If You Can” from 2017, is part of a conceptual journey followed by their album The Great Tale of How I Ruined It All. The album tells a dystopian story, featuring brainwashing cults & apocalyptic themes.

In April 2024, Jhariah surprise-dropped the album Trust Ceremony featuring hit single “RISK, RISK, RISK!”—a high energy, theatrical song mixing hardcore & Latin Punk!

Jhariah’s (who uses they/he pronouns) non-binary identity connects him to the bold, dramatic writing style which is often influenced by his hometown of New York. Many of their releases are conceptual, containing storytelling elements as the core of their art! “EAT YOUR FRIENDS” addresses jealousy and competition in the music industry. The artist seems to have a fan base of mainly Gen-Z Listeners who value emotional honesty. Furthermore, the song “Flight of the Crows" has over 24 million Spotify plays, which shows they have a strong digital following! On social media, fans often compare Jhariah to great bands like My Chemical Romance or Panic! At The Disco, indicating a link to emo/theatrical rock communities.

Jhariah’s live performances reflect his music’s engaging vibe, since he often jumps on side speakers to get closer to fans. If you imagine a musical all about pop punk, that is what a Jhariah show is. He is a truly great performer and an underrated vocalist!

Jhariah also likes to connect with his fans by meeting them after, too. The artist was at the merch booth after and sold merch while also greeting fans—truly a small but heartfelt action! The whole band is very talented and are sure to skyrocket in the future.

Thank you to Jhariah and their team for allowing us to cover the show!
