The angelic trio performs their latest 90s inspired album, Adult Romantix, in Atlanta

Samira Winter came on stage to lead the rest of her band as a true cherub. Clad in a black silk dress, Docs, and custom white lace angel wings, the frontperson of Winter wasted no time sharing her infectious smile and energy with the crowd she performed to at The Masquerade’s Altar stage last week. The set was filled with crushingly romantic lyrics and fuzzy guitar riffs. Winter is currently touring their newest record Adult Romantix, which was released this August. Fans got to hear much of the new album, some older tracks, and enjoyed a night of killer 90s-inspired shoegaze from the mighty trio.

Adult Romantix is a timeless record that melds dreamy pop and 90s alt rock together in a lovely, hazy package. It deals with themes of love lost but not forgotten in both people and places. Winter played top songs from the album including “Misery”, “Hide-A-Lullaby”, and “Just Like a Flower”. The track that she just lit up when performing though was “Without You”. Winter is originally from Brazil and likes to include Portuguese in her work when she can. The second verse is in her native language and fits seamlessly into the sweet and gentle sound of the song. Lovers of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, and Yo La Tengo will find Winter and their newest record beautifully appealing and familiar.
Winter has gone through a number of iterations during its existence. It started as a band led by Samira Winter and has over time become the main brainchild of the musician. She writes the songs, embedding much of her own personal experience within them. Particularly during this Adult Romantix run, we have seen Winter combine her own personal style not only in the music but in the branding and visuals surrounding the entire project. It has made the record and subsequent tour feel so wholly like a slice of the artist’s heart and certainly makes fans love it that much more.

Winter is led by a bubbly, angelic Samira Winter, who wears her heart on her sleeve and makes music that speaks to soft rockers of all kinds. The presence and intention in her live performance was nothing short of inspiring. With the other two members of her touring party, Winter left fans awestruck and aching for the band’s return to Atlanta in the hopefully near future.

Thank you so much to Winter, their team, and The Masquerade for an incredible evening of live music and for making this review possible!
